Of the card games played in India, Rummy is considered the most interesting game. The exciting gaming variance and unpredictable gaming structure make the game special and loving. Every time one plays a rummy game, it makes them feel like playing a completely new game; hence people never get tired or bored of playing rummy games.
A player must be cautious enough in observing the moves of oppositions and must be ready to face the challenges thrown by the opponents. The most interesting factor of a rummy game is that success doesn’t have any proper formula. The rules are set, and the winning status can be achieved in various ways.
In every instance, the player will have a different hand, different target and different requirements; hence the monotony of playing a game is eliminated. A Hand in a rummy game is the set of cards dealt with each player at the table. The number of cards dealt with each player depends on the game you play. In a 13-card Indian rummy, 13 cards are dealt, whereas, in a 21-card rummy, 21 cards are dealt.
By rummy rules, a player must make sequences and sets (if necessary) in hand received. A sequence must have three or more cards in order of continuous card ranks from the same suit. There are two types of sequences – primary & secondary sequences. Of the two, the primary sequence is a mandatory one for a player to declare the sets. At the same time, a set is a group of 3 or 4 cards of the same ranks from different suits. There are three variants of 13-card Indian Rummy, namely- Points, Pool and Deals rummy.
How to analyse a rummy hand?
The very first second after receiving the cards, one must look for the possibilities to win the game. Dropping out of the game with just 20 points loss is much better than taking risks and losing 80 points. Being smart is more important than being adamant for a win. The player must have a better idea of the order of discarding cards while analysing the game.
In case one receives a rummy hand with a major number of face cards, it would be hard for any player to declare the game; hence it is recommended to have dropped the game. A perfect hand for play is when one receives a hand with multiple possibilities for primary sequence and also has a decent number of joker cards to finish the game quickly.
When the hand receives a moderate one, then the player must decide on whether he/she is skilled enough to cross the finish line.
Analysing the cards will be the first step to success; hence make a wise call!
