IPL 2020 Auction in Action!

The latest Auction was for the 2020 season. Applications from all over the world were received. For the 73 slots available, there were 338 contenders- 190 Indians and 148 overseas players. Even though it was a comparatively smaller auction, the excitement was not any less. There were many top-notch players in the list- Glenn Maxwell, Chris Lynn, Shimron Hetmyer, Eoin Morgan, and many more.

Let’s look at the eight teams about their place in the Auction.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

If there’s any team that badly needs to win the title, it is RCB. The team is on a rough patch for some years now. Despite taking the field with a star-studded lineup, they weren’t able to deliver. CSK has a very balanced squad with a good mix of experience and youth. Having retained veterans like Dhoni, Rayudu, Du Plessis, Raina and Watson, this auction was a step to build a team for the future and the picks were made with a similar thought.

Here are the guys bought by CSK

  • Josh Hazlewood –2 crores
  • Sam Curran – 50 crores
  • Piyush Chawla – 6.75 crores
  • R Sai Kishore – 20 lakh

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals are perhaps the most underachievers in the history of IPL. On a number of instances, they were the cellar dwellers languishing at the bottom of the table. The team finally broke the jinx last year. Led by an inspirational captainship from the Young Shreyas Iyer, the fortunes of the team turned around and they made it to the playoff. This time even before the auction, they made sure their team had the right combination. Nearly 70% of the elevens have players who are representing India in international cricket. This IPL 2020 auction gave them a platform to strengthen their team further. Let’s have a look at their picks

  • Shimron Hetmyer –7.75 crores
  • Alex Carey –2.40 crores
  • Chris Woakes –1.50 crores
  • Jason Roy – 1.50 crores

 Rajasthan Royals

Like DC, RR believed in investing much towards Indian players.

RR released many players before the Auction; fans expected a strong line-up for the upcoming season. It is a fact that RR won the first-ever IPL season under the Aussie Legend, Shane Warne. The team hasn’t been anywhere close to delivering that kind of performance. Let’s see whether they are able to replicate their 2008 performance with their picks for IPL 2020 edition

RR buys:

  • Sanjay Yadav – 20 lakh

Next to cricket, the most exciting game that people prefer to play en-masse is rummy. It is a game that has been played for ages. Just like how fortunes change every ball in a T20, every move creates an impact in a rummy game. Similar to cricket, skill plays a vital role in classic rummy. Good memory, critical thinking ability, and decision-making skills are mandatory in a rummy game online. Just like cricket, in your rummy career, you come across many nerve-wracking contests.

Delhi Capitals vs CSK – Predict & Double your prize amount!

Delhi Capitals – Men with a mission

At the start of this IPL, no one would have given the faintest chance to Delhi Capitals side. Led by a young Shreyas Iyer, lots of pundits and cricket fans thought of them as merely pushovers for the other teams filled with veterans and Superstars. But Delhi Capitals proved everyone wrong with a spirited performance to reach the playoffs.

This is a side which ended up at the bottom of the IPL table last time with 5 wins and 9 losses. Now the whole equation has been reversed. With 9 wins from 14 matches, they were ranked right up with the best teams of this league – Mumbai and Chennai Super Kings. A better run rate could have helped them even top the league.

The eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday was a banana slip for DC. A slip would have been its swansong and it would have been knocked out of the tourney thereby bringing in an end to a colorful story. But the resolve and never-say-never attitude of the youngsters in the team saw them conquer the hurdle in a thrilling finish. Now they are up against the formidable CSK, which has the habit of rising from the ashes too many times. In other words, they are one step away from the final and that step is a giant barrier they have to breach. When the two teams clash tonight all eyes would be on MSD and Rishab Pant, the wicketkeeper-batsman of both the teams. Both have been among runs this season and have won matches for their team respectively.

Delhi Capitals

DC – the Young guns

Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant have been excellent with the bat. Much has been discussed about Rishabh Pant’s non-selection in World Cup squad and he answered his critics in style by playing some blinders in this IPL edition. However, he must find a way to stick around until the end of the match and finish the job more frequently for serious consideration. The experience of Shikhar Dhawan, Amit Mishra, and Ishant Sharma have come in handy this season for DC. Kagiso Rabada, who is the purple cap holder has been badly missed and DC have not been able to replace him. Also, the Shreyas Iyer side has displayed nervousness during crunch situations and they let the grip slip. It was evident during the matches they lost in this edition despite having an upper hand.

CSK – the behemoth of IPL

CSK has a history of seizing the opportunity and peak at the right time. Having been in the final for a record 7 times and winning the title thrice, CSK has become synonymous with the IPL and has been hailed as the behemoth of the league. MSD’s cricket acumen has been praised worldwide and that has probably played a big role in the franchise’s popularity. You don’t even have to dig in pedantically; a rudimentary analysis would help you know how popular the franchise is with the cricketing masses.

The difference between the two teams is stark. From the average age (CSK’s average age is 34 whereas DC’s age average is 27) to approach to the game, both the teams are poles apart. While Delhi’s young guns have played with a passion and resolve that we have never seen from them, one cannot discount the experience and guile of the veterans in CSK. DC has drawn wide admiration for reposing their faith on the team’s youngsters and they have performed splendidly.

Loaded with veterans like Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, Du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Ambatti Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja and the skipper MSD himself, CSK knows the knack of winning crucial matches and its resolve in relentlessly pursuing top honors should work in its way. Despite boasting a team with star-studded players, CSK’s batting this year has been a cause of a worry for them. They compensated the shortcomings in their bowling with a strong bowling lineup that includes the likes of Imran Tahir, Harbhajan Singh, and Ravindra Jadeja. Tahir with 23 wickets is just two short of breaking Rabada’s record to win the purple cap.

Youth vs Experience

CSK to their advantage has defeated Delhi Capitals twice this season. So, it’s going to be an uphill task for the young guns of Delhi Capitals to pass this Chennai barrier. So who do you think will prevail in this encounter? This match is going to be a cracker of a contest where both the team would try to come out all guns blazing. Can Delhi Capitals, who are on the cusp of making history, overcome their bowling woes to dethrone the behemoth CSK from the league? Can the youth overcome the experience?

IPL 2019 Bonanza – SRH vs Delhi Capitals – Predict & double your wins!

In the most important eliminator match of the tournament, Delhi Capitals will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag. The winner of the match will have one more hurdle before finals as they have to face CSK team in qualifier 2 in the same venue. As expected, Rohit Sharma led Mumbai side maintained their dominance over CSK in yesterday’s Qualifier 1 and stormed their way into the finals. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals will square off for the third time in a crucial match where one of them will be knocked out from the competition and the other would have to labor their way into the final.

Delhi Capitals vs SRH

Delhi Capitals – Surprise Package

Delhi Capitals have been exceptional throughout the tournament. Much was expected of Delhi team when it had the likes of Sehwag, Kevin Peterson, Ross Taylor around, but they could never fulfill their huge expectation all these years. Handing over the captaincy to the young Shreyas Iyer from Goutham Gambhir raised a lot of eyebrows but he has removed all doubts by leading from the front. During some instances, Delhi Capitals even topped the tables. With some additional focus, they could have well topped the league. Now, they are into the playoffs after seven long years. Hiring the services of former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting and Indian legend Sourav Ganguly has immensely helped them. Delhi Capitals have been a revelation, a complete surprise this tournament. Nobody gave them a chance prior to the start of the season but they have delivered an enviable performance.

Shikhar Dhawan, Prithwi Shaw and the skipper himself, Shreyas Iyer were among the runs. The trio has been peaking wonderfully and the team would once again rely on them to provide a blistering start. However, the Delhi side has a cause of worry in the absence of Kagiso Rabada, who is at present the purple cap holder with 25 wickets. Trent Boult who is in place of Rabada has a big shoe to fill. Delhi Capital’s away record should give some confidence. Also, they are into the match after a victory over Rajasthan Royals.

SRH – blowing hot and cold

Sunrisers Hyderabad must consider themselves lucky having qualified for the tournament. With 12 points, they become the first to do so. However, that doesn’t undermine the brilliant work David Warner and Johnny Bairstow did during their stint with the league. However, SRH doesn’t have the services of Bairstow and Warner anymore as they are on to national duties. Martin Guptill and Wriddhiman Saha have a big shoe to fill. Kane Williamson, who has been struggling with the bat, returned to form with a classy half-century against RCB, which should be a good sign for the men in orange. However, SRH has lost 5 of their last 6 matches so they must obviously be low on confidence.

SRH’s biggest strength has been their bowling. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, and the Afghani duo Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi have been impressive throughout the tournament. Vijay Shankar, who has been selected for the WC in England, has serious form issues with a string of low scores. He would be gunning for a big store in this match.

Head-to-Head

It’s simply SRH’s bowling against Delhi’s batting. SRH’s powerful bowling line up would like to exploit DC’s batting which can become vulnerable after quick wickets. SRH have faced DC twice in this tournament with both the teams winning a match apiece. In the head to head encounter between both the sides, SRH has 9 victories compared to DC’s 5 in the 14 matches they played against each other. The stadium is said to be spinner friendly. So’ it’s unlikely we would have a high scoring game. Whatever be the outcome, we are sure to have a thrilling encounter. When the team struggled all the way to reach up to this place, it is only obvious they would put in a ferocious struggle to go further.

CSK

CSK vs RCB – the perfect start

And what better way to open the ultimate carnival of cricket than having the most decorated teams in the league clash against each other. Yes, it’s CSK vs. RCB that’s going to be the inaugural match this season. To put it more precisely it’s Thala Dhoni vs. King Kohli that’s going to set the house on fire. Social Media is already exploding with the way they have the organizers have promoted the first ad in a novel way insisting cricket is going to be the winner with their “game more than the name” slogan.
